Dear Diary,
South Wind’s have a bit of an ‘in’ with the Wonderbolts. To be honest, any of the Cardinal Wind positions do, I’m convinced the only reason Rainbow hasn’t chosen to exploit that fact is because she wants every second they see her to involve fireworks and cheering fans. Shes just not the sort of pony who drops in on her idols to say hi.
Unless said drop includes a thousand foot powerdive.
Anyway, Soarin, one of the current members, used to be Cloudsdale’s South Wind himself. Its where he learned to perfect his climbs and build endurance into his wings. When he set the Equestria altitude record they pulled him into the ranks, and he’s been dazzling fans ever since. But he knows where he came from, and we on the Winds can usually drop in on Wonderbolt HQ and say hello without too much to-do about it.
Echo Fleetfoot is a pony success story the likes of which few fillies can match. From blind, undersized no-pony to one of the fastest flyers in Equestria, she’s become the beacon of light for every foal who ever worried that they’d never amount to anything because they lacked some apparently mandatory physical skill or attribute. She’s an inspiration, an icon, and a symbol of perseverance and dedication to ponies everywhere.
And she makes thecutestlittle squeaks through those teeth of hers when she yelps. But that’s neither here nor there.
Echo has found a means around her blindness that is accurate enough to guide her through high-speed racetracks and competitions, and serves more than well enough for our purposes. With a little assistance, I was able to get her to sonically map out an route to Canterlot through the mist that wont involve us colliding with anything unfortunate on the way. Or rather, it WILL, but we’ll be expecting it. Half way between here and Equestria’s capital something new is floating in the air that wasn’t there a month ago. Midnight is going to head directly to Canterlot himself to check in, which leaves me to investigate this floating island alone.
